At Feisst Group, we’re passionate about helping people get into a trade. Whether you’re a high school student looking for work experience through the Gateway programme or ready to begin your apprenticeship, we’ll support you every step of the way.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Get a taste of life on the tools with Gateway

Our Gateway programme gives senior secondary students hands-on work experience. It’s the perfect way to explore a career in the trades while you’re still at high school, and see if it’s the right fit for you.

Over the past few years, we’ve hosted more than 25 Gateway students from local schools, including Hamilton Boys’, Hillcrest High, St John’s College, and Hamilton Girls’.

Many have gone on to secure apprenticeships, some even with us!

Gateway Success Story - James Soper

Apprentice Electrician

James Soper joined Feisst Electrical through the Gateway programme and made a strong impression from the outset with his positive attitude, clear communication, and strong work ethic.

Gateway provided James with valuable hands-on experience, helping him grow in confidence, understand the expectations of the workplace, and develop practical skills that set him up for success.

Today, James is continuing his journey with Feisst as a first-year apprentice – a great example of how Gateway helps shape future career pathways in the trades.

Gateway Success Story - Luka Srhoj

Apprentice Electrician

I started with Feisst Electrical in October 2022 and was exposed to a wide variety of jobs right from the start, which gave me great insight into the work. My first big project was at FMG Stadium, redoing the light towers. We spent some long hours there, and the hard work brought me really close to the team. I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to work at the top of the towers, suspended in a harness.

From tower work to solar installs in the South Island, these have been some of the best experiences I’ve had so far. I’m aiming to be qualified this year, and with the support and guidance from Feisst, I know I’ll get there — that’s one of the main reasons I chose to work here.

I chose electrical because there are so many different paths you can take, and it can take you all around the world.

“Gateway gives students the chance to ‘try before they buy’ - they get hands-on experience to see if a trade is right for them. It helps them make informed decisions about their futures, gain confidence, and build valuable industry connections.

All our students complete First Aid and Health & Safety training, and many go on to pre-trade tasters through Wintec.

If an opportunity for work experience arises, I want my students to be front-of-mind, and Feisst Electrical has been incredible at supporting that.
